A Stupid Favor

Book: A Simple Favor

Author: Darcey Bell

Pages: 358

Who Should Read This Book: Mystery lovers, Thriller lovers, Suspense lovers, Crime lovers, Beach goers etc.

Rating: 7/10

This is a quick read. I read it in a weekend. Mostly because I couldn’t put it down. I needed to know what was going to happen to these crazy idiots. Oh I should mention, the three main characters are stupid or crazy or both.

Emily = Crazy

Sean = Stupid

Stephanie = Crazy and Stupid

The plot is pretty good. Most of the time I didn’t know what was going on. There was one thing I figured out really quickly, but I wasn’t expecting the ending. The book starts out with you reading a series of blog posts from Stephanie. She’s a mommy blogger and she’s appealing to all her followers to help her find her missing friend Emily. I had a bit of a hard time reading the blog posts because the writer just sounded so dumb. Then it switches from blog posts to her narrating and you realize this character is supposed to be an idiot. Stephanie and Emily’s husband Sean are spearheading the manhunt for Emily and the story develops from there.

Mini Spoiler ahead (I promise it doesn’t ruin the story).

Emily isn’t dead. Emily starts narrating in Part 2 and you find out that she’s really smart, crafty, crazy, and very good at manipulating people. Her plan was to disappear all along and the reason why is typical. But when Sean, her husband, messes up the plan everything changes.

These three characters go on a train ride together where Emily is the conductor and the train is sure to derail. A great choice for a vacation book or when you want a quick page turner. Try not to get too frustrated with all the stupidity.
