Who should read this book: fans of the Divergent Series and Carve the Mark, and dystopian worlds, short story fans.
I received this book from Harper Collins Canada so thank you to them! It came out October 1.
The End and Other Beginnings is a collection of 6 short stories, two of which are set in the Carve the Mark universe. I really enjoyed the writing, but I already knew I liked Roth’s writing, having read the Divergent series before. I read the 6 stories on 6 different days, just picking this book up when I wanted to. They were all good but the first one stuck with me the most.
It was called Inertia and it was set in the near future. When people are dying in the hospital, when they are on the their last breaths, they have a list of people they want to talk to before they die. Doctors will call the people from the list and your mind will be connected to the dying person. You can talk freely and experience memories you both have. It was a sad and beautiful story.
Anyways, if you like Roth or your a fan of short stories, this is a fun, quick read. There is also so nice art in the book, to supplement the stories.
