We are half way through the readathon already. Seriously this year is flying by. I have been loving seeing all your posts about fantasy books and I’m not ashamed to admit, I have added a lot of fantasy books to my list of books to read.
So far I have read 5 books. I started the month with City of Brass by S A Chakraborty. This is a low fantasy book. It is set in the past in Egypt but there are magical being knows as djinn (genies), think Aladdin. My full review can be found here. I am definitely continuing this trilogy in July. Review here.
I also started re-reading the Throne of Glass series by Sarah J Maas. I finished book 1 Throne of Glass in May, but started book 2 Crown of Midnight at the beginning of June. I’m on book 4 now.
I finished my book by a BIPOC author, Son of the Storm by Suyi Davis Okunbowa. It was phenomenal. Set in a world based on pre-colonial Africa it was exciting and intense. The world building was a little slow. The book is almost 500 pages and it took the first 200 pages to really set up everything. But I found it really unique and was very intrigued. Review coming soon.
I also finished my book for the prompt Read a book by a new to you author. I chose An Ember in the Ashes by Sabaa Tahir. There are 4 books in the series and I am kicking myself for starting so many series this month. I need to read the rest of this series asap. I’m hoping to order them soon and maybe finish the series in July. But I also want to finish the City of Brass trilogy and continue my reread of Throne of Glass. There’s not enough free time for reading!
I started Legendborn by Tracy Deonn as an extra book too and I’m very intrigued by it. Today I’m starting The Bone Shard Daughter by Andrea Stewart.
I have been enjoying all the fantasy books this month and can’t wait to read the rest of my planned books! There are so many more to look forward to. How is your June reading going so far?
